SAINT ISABEL CHURCH

Location

Sanibel, Florida

Size

Existing one-story

A beloved church on a gorgeous Florida island was damaged by Hurricane Charley, a category 4 hurricane with wind gusts reaching 150mph—one of the strongest recorded hurricanes in that area. The damage was repaired, and the structure was strengthened, bringing it up to code to withstand future hurricane-force winds. Luckily, one of the most cherished pieces in the church, a stained-glass window, was saved during the restoration. The existing building was built on a shallow foundation system, with exterior masonry walls and a structural steel framed roof.
